Hello newbies, I am Breakin Stuff, the purveyor of all things helpful and fun. For today's lesson 9my first ever) I am going to explain to you all what the "strafe glitch" is, and how to exploit it properly, allowing you to fight back against those tools who wiggle back and forth like a Hyena-baby on crack while hopped up on caffeine.
Is this cheating? NO! However, it does increase your survivability against the veteran players who have been butchering you left and right, and I guarantee it will **** them off INTENSELY to have a sub-10 million SP newbro exterminate them in a fair fight.
Now what is the strafe glitch? The strafe glitch is the use of rapid strafing back and forth to throw off the enemy aim. This in itself is not a bad thing, except for two things.
1: There is no inertia in DUST on your character. What this means is you can instantly change direction with NO LOSS OF SPEED. A rapidly strafing character (called the wiggle dance by vets) results in the hit detection in the game tracking you poorly and resulting in higher survivability.
2: Aim Assist has reticle magnetism. It's not as severe as you see in DESTINY, but it's enough to let you pull off some truly obnoxious things in response to nerds who want to flaunt their "gun game" by torching your fun with their dropsuits that cost more than what you earn per match.
How do I do this mighty trick? It will take practice.
Step 1: Dropsuit choice.
The faster the better. Anything marked "scout," Caldari and Minmatar assaults, and (if you're fighting fatties with miniguns) the minmatar sentinel. Gallente assaults can pull this trick off and I have made it work in a commando. But the Caldari and minmatar scouts and Assaults are hands-down the best choices to make this work. Load up on ferroscale armor plates, with a reactive plate or armor rep, as well as shield extenders. Remember, the more mobility, the better.
Step 2: Open up the neocom menu, go into your settings and turn Aim Assist to "ON." This is critical, and the technique does not work if you don't utilize this feature.
Step 3: enter battle.
Step 4: This is the hard part. You have to target an enemy for this, I recommend Q-syncing with a buddy to opposite sides of facwar to properly see how this works and practice the technique. If you strafe across your buddy, you will notice the reticle "sticks" to the target. this reticle magnetism is affected by speed, so the faster you and your target move relative to each other, the harder it locks. (WARNING! This is less effective against fatties, but it still works!).
The critical part is while you are strafing rapidly and enjoying the higher shot avoidance, you must not use the right stick. If you leave the right stick centered, you can Enjoy your reticle mostly sticking to your enemy, causing a higher number of hits in your favor. Only use the right stick if you move too far off the target. Remember, you want to use TIGHT, rapid circles on the controller, or a figure-8 pattern. The key is not stopping for anything. The tighter the circle, the more accurate your aim assist.
Step 5: KILL THOSE BASTARDS!
If you find yourself opposite a friend in a map, there are many out-of-the-way spots you can practice this technique without boosting. Boosting is the practice of artificially inflating your warpoints through dubious means. Don't do it, this is a bannable offense. Practicing how to get cheap kills on vets is NOT bannable.
So ladies and gents, I know some of you have moral qualms and see this as "cheating." This guide was not meant for you. Please leave the thread in a calm, orderly fashion.
This thread is for people like me who realize that if you can't beat 'em, JOIN 'EM! This is how the KDR-vomiting forum warriors (many of them anyway) do that voodoo that they do.
So I hope you have fun putting the guide to use.
Go forth and murder a few vets by strafing them to oblivion.
EDIT: This technique works best between 10 and 20 meters.
There's never enough sh**posting going on, so let's add a few more teaspoons of the guy posting after me to the recipie!

also should work on an amarr assault loaded with ferros and reps. three ferros, two reps, put three damage mods in the highs. GO FORTH AND CONQUER! OPPRESS THOSE HEATHEN MINMATAR BABIES!
WoW has taught me that Purple means Legendary. This means Quafe suits are the optimal loadout for killing all of you.
